Learning to Ride a Bicycle

This is unbelievable.
When Kathy said that she and Stephen had a surprise for me I thought it was a DVD I was waiting for. But then I saw Stephen cycling down the passage. I could not have been prouder.
Stephen got the bicycle from Gramsy (my Mom) for Christmas – just a month ago. I have try a number of times to show him the action of riding but nothing was better than him seeing another kid on a similar bicycle. I think something might have clicked when he was playing with my friend’s son over the weekend.

Another Piano Video

Just thought that I might turn my HD web camera onto Stephen while he was playing.

swimming

Yayy, My Son is learning to swim on his own. Took a lot of coaxing and encouragement but when he forgot his fear he became a water baby. I just don’t like the bently belt – sometimes when he flips over it almost traps him and he gets frightened. Anyway, soon we will try the armbands :) and whatever you recommend (got any ideas?) . Just with the water was not so cold :O

Scared out of my skin, my son choking

This is the first time something like this has happened to Stephen. When I heard Kathy calling my name in a panic I ran down the passage shouting “What, What, What, What”. Stephen had been chocking on a piece of sweet Mellon that Kathy had managed to dislodge with a few pats on the back. I remember the fear that filled my mind when I entered the room and saw my son’s teary eyes full of panic – I thought what if it is still stuck, what if I can’t get it out? I am not sure if I offered much of a sense of security to Stephen because his eyes were just mirrored back in mine. When I realize that the worst was over I just held him, it was all I could do.

But what can one do when this happens (from The Red Cross – How to deal with choking):

  1. Give up to 5 back blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.
  2. Check the mouth quickly after each one and remove any obvious obstruction.
  3. If the obstruction is still present give up to 5 abdominal thrusts. Place a clenched fist between the navel and the bottom of the breast bone and pull inwards and upwards. Check the mouth quickly after each one. If the obstruction does not clear after three cycles of back blows and abdominal thrusts, dial your emergency number.
  4. Continue cycles of back blows and abdominal thrusts until help arrives and resuscitate if necessary.

Parenting #FAIL

6 Months

Wow.
3 months to go. In fact it is highly expected that our daughter will be born before the date set for the Cesarean Birth (C-section) 19th April.
According to BabyCenter :

Your baby weighs about a pound and a half. His wrinkled skin is starting to smooth out as he puts on baby fat.

I like this

Well it was just Christmas, and I got Stephen a few nice things – film it all which I must still post. But this one takes the cake. My mom got Stephen a Bicycle, and what did Stephen said about it? Well you have probably already guessed, but check it out – sweet beyond words:

Merry Christmas

A Christmas postcard from us :)

The year has been great. Stephen has been learning lots and does not show any signs of slowing down.

The question on our minds now is; “How can we stimulate him more”, he must be so bored at the moment. We are completely biased but we think he’s a genius ;)

Well when Christmas day comes he is going to be so spoil. I kind of think that we overdid it. Watch this space, lol.

Anyway have a great Christmas and send your wishes and regards in the comments below – always appreciated more than gold.

Father Fail

Father Fail

The other day, I was going to quickly change Stephen’s nappy, it was morning, he had just woken up. As I put him up on the changing mat – actually a counter, he called for his Pooh Bear. I turned around to get it, I heard an odd sound, turned back.

I split second.

And Stephen was already flipping over the edge of the counter.

I was just not fast enough.

All that went through my mind was like a force of will for him to fall on his back.

Somehow did. Lots of tears, More of a fright than anything else.

Last week I was there for him, to catch him before a serious faceplant, this week I was not. I can’t be there all the time, but when I am and I can’t react, I feel bad.

Anyway this series is not about defeat and loss, it is about learning and overcoming.

How about you, what are you going through? Learning?
